Restarting the whirlpool after the winter break: Here's how!

Having your own hot tub in the garden - for many, this is the epitome of luxury and relaxation. But what happens when the days get shorter and the temperatures drop? That's right, the hot tub is winterized and shut down. But how do you restart it properly after the winter break? In this article, we explain step by step how to safely and effectively restart your hot tub after it has been shut down and what you should pay attention to.

Why is it important to restart after decommissioning?

If your hot tub has been left outside over the winter, a thorough restart is essential. Frozen water residues can damage pipes, and stagnant water provides ideal conditions for bacteria and germs to multiply. A thorough restart not only ensures hygienic water, but also protects the technology and extends the service life of your hot tub.

Step-by-step instructions for restarting your hot tub

Preparation:
Before you start, switch off all power sources - both at the hot tub itself and at the RCD. Safety has top priority!

1. drain the whirlpool tub

Remove the old water completely. Although it may seem tempting to treat the water with chemicals such as chlorine, this is not recommended. Stagnant water serves as a breeding ground for bacteria and should therefore definitely be replaced.

2. thorough cleaning

Clean both the housing and the cover of the hot tub:

  • Cover: Wipe down the outside with a multi-purpose cleaner, paying particular attention to the underside where mold often forms. If necessary, use a mixture of water and bleach to remove the mold.

  • Tub: Clean the tub thoroughly with a special tub cleaner. Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices where dirt and bacteria can accumulate.

3. allow the whirlpool tub to dry

After cleaning, carefully wipe all parts of the hot tub dry. Make sure everything is completely dry before proceeding to the next steps to avoid moisture damage.

4. remove and clean the filters

Even if the filters look clean, you should clean them thoroughly. Dirty filters affect the water quality and can cause blockages. If cleaning is not sufficient, replace the filters with new ones.

5. check the whirlpool tub for damage

Inspect the hot tub for any damage such as cracks, stains or mold that you may have overlooked during cleaning. Repair any visible damage before refilling the spa.

6. check the wiring

Even if the hot tub has been out of use for a long time, cables may be damaged. Check the wiring carefully or have it checked by an electrician to rule out any possible risks.

7. refilling the whirlpool tub

You can now fill the whirlpool tub with fresh water. Follow the instructions in the operating instructions. There you will also find detailed information on correct filling and commissioning.
