Whirlpool capacity

How to find the right size for your garden

A hot tub in the garden is the epitome of luxury and relaxation. However, before you decide on a model, you should consider the capacity. How many liters of water does your hot tub hold? This question is not only relevant for reasons of comfort, but also plays a decisive role in water maintenance and operating costs.

What does whirlpool tub capacity mean?

The capacity of a whirlpool tub indicates how much water in liters the tub can hold. This information is important in order to determine the correct dosage of water care products and to ensure a hygienic, optimum water condition.

How do I find out the capacity of my hot tub?

There are various ways to determine the capacity of your hot tub:

  • Manufacturer's specifications:
The easiest method is to look at your hot tub's instruction manual. Alternatively, you can search online by brand and model to find the relevant information.

  • Fill time method:
If no manufacturer's information is available, you can calculate the capacity yourself using the so-called "fill time method". This method takes a little time, but provides a reliable result.

Step-by-step guide to the filling time method:

  1. Measure filling time:
Stop the time it takes to fill the hot tub completely. Note the minutes and seconds and convert them into total seconds.

  2. Measure the filling time of a known volume:
Use the same faucet and water pressure to fill a container of known volume (e.g. a 4-liter bucket). Measure the time in seconds.

  3. Calculate seconds per liter:
Divide the measured time (in seconds) it took to fill the container by the number of liters in the container.

  4. Calculate capacity:
Divide the spa fill time (in seconds) by the calculated seconds per liter. The result is the approximate capacity of your hot tub in liters.

Example:

  • Your hot tub fills in 45 minutes (2,700 seconds).

  • A 4-liter bucket fills in 8 seconds (i.e. 2 seconds per liter).

  • Calculation: 2,700 seconds ÷ 2 seconds/liter = 1,350 liters capacity.

Which capacity is right for me?

The ideal size of your hot tub depends on several factors:

  • Number of people:
For 2-4 people, a hot tub with a capacity of 800-1,200 liters is usually sufficient. For larger groups, models with 1,500 liters or more are recommended.

  • Available space:
Measure your garden carefully to make sure the hot tub will fit well and leave enough space for access and maintenance.

  • Budget:
Larger hot tubs tend to be more expensive to purchase and incur higher running costs.
